MONORAIL'S HARD AND DEEP PROCESS (HDP)
Our unique heat treatment procedure, HDP, offers maximum hardness, a deeper hardness penetration for extra resistance to wear, and a longer
service life where heavy loads and severe service conditions are encountered.
Wheels are quenched to a hardness higher than 62 Rockwell C in order to obtain a hard martensitic structure throughout the rim and furnace
tempered to detent stresses and adjust final hardness upon the service requirements of our customers' various applications.
HDP 58-62 RC, HDP 52-55 RC, HDP 48-52 RC (450-500 BHN)
Wheels are also manufactured in accordance with ASTM A504 Class A, Class B, or Class C (321-363 BHN) for chemistry and hardness.
Our Hard and Deep Process combined with Monorail's high carbon forged steel permits us to obtain a very strong surface hardness of 58-62 RC
leaving the core tough and ductile. Our hardness pattern prevents flanges from breaking and also prevents tread from spalling. The Hard and
Deep Process covers every aspect of the wheels heat treatment in order to obtain the ideal hardness pattern that ensures longer service life.
